Arts

Arts

“There is no ‘best’ in a world of individuals.”

This quote by Hugh Prather illustrates Darrow’s commitment to helping students find their creative voice through a diversity of media. Our students perform in theater productions, sing with the chorus, take individual music classes, and create numerous two- and three-dimensional works of art that are exhibited in shows throughout the year.

Under the guidance of a professional arts faculty, students can come to do extensive studies in a culturally rich community setting.

At Darrow - A distictive learning environment
“This is my first year taking a Ceramics class. As a beginner, I wasn’t very confident with my work and had great difficulty with the skills that others mastered easily. I became frustrated at certain moments, and didn’t like any of the pieces I created. With time and hard work, however, I found myself improving. Ceramics became more fun and interesting as the semester progressed, and it wasn’t long before I started attending open hours on a regular basis. The encouragement of my peers and teachers helped me keep a positive attitude, and I started becoming more confident. Now that the semester is coming to an end, I look back on all I’ve done and feel accomplished. I am pleased with my pieces and with my improvement. I tried something completely new, and my choice was extremely rewarding. Pieces such as the lighthouse and the picket fence vase reflect the hard work and effort I put into the class. I hope others have the opportunity to take Ceramics.” Kate ’06
