Technology Resources
DarrowNet, the campus-wide computer network, links all faculty, staff, administrative, and lab computers with a sophisticated fiber-optic network and Internet backbone. Several wireless networks provide coverage for Darrow's academic buildings, enabling students and faculty to work untethered by wires.
DarrowNet is host to several fileservers for academic and administrative needs, as well as Darrow’s e-mail system.
Computers are essential tools for today’s students and faculty. At Darrow School, rather than teach applications like Microsoft Word or Excel, we integrate technology into the curriculum. Science classes use pH and dissolved oxygen probes to log and graph data captured from Darrow’s Living Machine wastewater treatment plant. Math classes use The Geometeter’s Sketchpad software to visually represent the answers to complex problems. Multi-cultural and English classes use PowerPoint presentations to present data to their classmates and during all-school meetings. Art and photography students have access to the latest software from Adobe such as PhotoshopCS2, PageMaker, and Illustrator. English and history classes write papers in Microsoft Word. Every student at Darrow School uses computing technology in the classroom, as well as for homework assignments and communication with faculty and with each other.
Our Network Administrator, supported by student technology prefects, provides technical assistance to students and faculty. This support includes: network management, software solutions, desktop and local area network support, systems management, security, data backup and disaster recovery, administrative computing, troubleshooting, and document services.
